MINIMUM DISTANCE FROM BORGO AL CERRO: ca 30 km (30 mins)

The Chianti Classico area includes several municipalities between the provinces of Siena and Florence, so the distance from Borgo al Cerro varies; Castellina in Chianti and Barberino Val d’Elsa (the two towns closest to us) can be reached in about 30 minutes.

• BARBERINO VAL D’ELSA: small fortified town with encircling walls and towers.
• CASTELLINA IN CHIANTI: with its impressive Rocca, the site of the Town Hall, located inside the outer walls with towers, the church of SS. Salvatore with a Renaissance wooden statue, and the Strada delle Volte (vaulted alley).
• CASTELNUOVO BERARDENGA: the southernmost town in the Chianti area. Villa Chigi Saracini with its magnificent grounds, the Torre dell’Orologio, and Church of San Giusto e Clemente. 
• GAIOLE IN CHIANTI: situated in a strategic position between Chianti and Upper Valdarno (Arno Valley), the town has long been a market-place, as shown by the funnel-like shape of the main (market) square, Piazza del Municipio.
• GREVE IN CHIANTI: beautiful market-square with its characteristic porticoes, Town Hall, monument to Giovanni da Verrazzano, Church of Santa Croce. Fortified borgo of Montefioralle.
• PANZANO: with its medieval "borgo" and Pieve di San Leolino. 
• STRADA IN CHIANTI und SAN POLO IN CHIANTI: with its church, the Chiesa di Rubiana. 
• RADDA IN CHIANTI: original town walls with Palazzo Podestà (Town Hall) and heraldic crests dating to between 15th and 18th centuries. 
• SAN CASCIANO VAL DI PESA: feudal castle of Florentine bishops ever since 11th century. Nearby, the Pieve di Santa Cecilia at Decimo, small Romanesque church of Santo Stefano at Gabbiola and at Sant’Andrea in Percussina, the Albergaccio, and headquarters of the Chianti Classico-Marchio Storico Consortium. 
• TAVARNELLE VAL DI PESA: Church of Santa Lucia al Borghetto with monastery. Three important centres: San Donato in Poggio with Romanesque parish church and Pietracupa Sanctuary.
• SAMBUCA VAL DI PESA and BADIA A PASSIGNANO: of Longobard origin, the site of a very old monastery dating to the year 890. 

EVENTS
A great many cultural and folkloristic events, as well as food and wine events, are held throughout the year in all the towns in the Chianti region, especially during the summer and at harvest time (September/October).

ADVICE
Allow at least one day for this area, if possible finding time for a visit to a wine cellar with wine-tasting.

FINE FOOD AND WINE
The Chianti area is full of trattorias and restaurants of all standards where you usually eat well, but we advise you to look closely at the price list before choosing.
